Concept

Though Niseko is undergoing rapid changes lately, the hearts of the people here stay the same. Niseko Utari Festival was started with the goal of bringing together locals and visitors, young and old, people from mountain and city, in a celebration of friendship and the beauty of this area. The name of the festival, Utari, means friendship of togertherness in the Ainu language, the language of the original inhabitants of this area.
 
This winter's event in february 2009 was the second Utari Festival, the first taking place last June. For all events from now on, too, we are looking forward to turnout like the last ones, with the venues packed!  A great time was had by all last june and on 1st of february 2009, with everyone coming together in the spirit of togetherness and having fun!
 
With the increase of foreigners to Niseko in the winter season, we have worked hard to choose artists that both have an international appeal and also represent the local Hokkaido culture. Here in this wonderful natural environment we look forward to breaking down barriers between language and culture, connecting people through music, and creating an experience that can't be found anywhere else!
